  • TUITION is $205 per semester.  If you cannot pay by semester, you may pay $45 per month: payable in  monthly installments on the FIRST class of each month.   Please pay your tuition on time.
  • $10 LATE FEE assessed if tuition is not paid by the first class of the month.
  • There is a nonrefundable textbook fee of $25 payable at registration.   The book will be passed out on the first day of class. 
  • Parents will ensure that all homework assignments are completed on time.
  • Parents will ensure that the student arrives to class on time.  Being late not only disrupts the class, but the student also missing part of the lesson.
  • Because each class is a week’s worth of lessons, NO absences are recommended. If you miss too much, it is impossible to keep up. 
  • Disciplinary problems: There will be no foul language or any other type of disrespectful behavior.  I agree to cooperate with Mrs. White with appropriate action.  Should something of this sort persist, the student will be expelled.

         Composition I:      8:00 a.m.  –  10:00 a.m.                  Composition II:   12:30 noon  –  2:30 p.m.                       Composition III:   2:30 p.m.  –   4:30 p.m.

  • Notebook paper (preferably a spiral notebook)

  • Thesaurus (paperback or electronic)

  • Dictionary (paperback or electronic)

  • Folder for homework

  NOTE: 

  • Students are required to keep all graded homework for future reference.
  • WRITE RIGHT WITH MRS. WHITE is a combination text and workbook; students will be writing notes in it and writing in it for some assignments.  

SYLLABI

COMPOSITION I  lays the foundation for all writing.  Students will practice the essentials of good writing in various genres.  They will learn a step-by-step approach to writing effectively that takes the mystery and frustration out of the process.  Class instruction will include lectures, group brainstorming and writing, group interaction, drama, and hands-on practice.  By the time students complete this class, they will be prepared to move forward in more advanced writing skills.

COMPOSITION II   picks up from Composition I.  The five-paragraph essay is thoroughly mastered in all genres.  More sophisticated writing techniques are introduced to bring depth and maturity to their writing.  Students will also learn to brainstorm, write, and revise more quickly to prepare them for college.  Class instruction will include lectures, group brainstorming and writing, group interaction, drama, and hands-on practice.

 Prerequisite: Composition I (Exceptions made on an individual basis.)

COMPOSITION III  is an in depth course preparing students for college level work.  To fine-tune their skills, the class masters more sophisticated writing techniques, practices the 25-minutes essay, and completes a personal essay, research paper, and mock essay.  Anyone completing this course should be prepared to CLEP out of College Composition, to take the SAT/ACT essay exam, and to function with ease in writing college essays. 

Prerequisite: Composition I & II and a working knowledge of outlining.
