15:40

After two years at home resting, Paul, now with Silas, depart Antioch, Syria. Passing through Syria and Cilicia, they stop and briefly to visit the churches in the cities which they pass through. Very brief visits. A great deal of arriving and departing.

16:1

After a two year absence, Paul arrives back at Galatia. He comes first to Derbe and stays for a very brief visit. He departs Derbe.

Paul visits the other three churches of Galatia, arriving and then departing after very brief visits with each ekklesia.

16:8

Paul briefly arrives at and departs from the church in Troas.

16:12

17:1

Having departed Philippi, Paul and Silas arrive at Thessalonica.

17:10

Shortly thereafter the two men depart Thessalonica and arrive at Berea.

17:14

Paul leaves Berea.

17:15

Paul arrives at Athens.

18:1

Paul departs Athens and arrives at Corinth. Paul stays in Corinth 18 months -- a record. Until now he has averaged about four months per church for his first visit, and then maybe a week's visit for his second visit.

18:18

Paul departs Corinth.

18:19

He arrives in Cenchrea (a village 8 miles from Corinth, the city's port) and immediately departs for Ephesus. He departs Ephesus after only a few days there.

18:22

Paul arrives at Caesarea, Israel and quickly departs for Jerusalem, greets the church in Jerusalem briefly and departs for home -- Antioch in Syria.

Six years have passed.

Third journey for Paul (four years):

18:23

After a brief time in Antioch, Paul departs for a brief visit to Antioch (Pisidia), Iconium, Lystra, Derbe. . .but he soon departs the entire region of Galatia. This is only his third visit -- ever -- to these four churches. He comes and goes quickly.

19:1

Paul arrives in Ehpesus and stays TWO YEARS, raising up a church and training 8 young mobile ministers. He spends TWO MORE YEARS in the area around Ephesus showing these 8 men how to plant churches in the smaller cities and towns.

19:21

Just as things begin to look good in Ephesus, Paul decided to visit Jerusalem and go to Rome.

19:22

"He (Paul) sent two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, to Macedonia, while he stayed in the province of Asia a little longer."

20:1-2

Paul departs Ephesus and Asia Minor and starts out toward Macedonia, Greece.

20:3

Paul arrives in Macedonia. He spends 3 months in Greece. He departs and starts home for Antioch, Syria.

20:6

Passing through southern Greece, he arrives and departs the church in Philippi. Paul arrives and departs the church in Troas. (He stayed a grand total of 7 days with the ekklesia in Troas.)

20:14-16

Assos, Mitylene, Samos, Miletus are all ports-of-call. Paul in one day in each.

20:17

Paul circumvents Ephesus, knowing if he stops there, the ekklesia will make him stay a few days. He is avoiding ministry to the ekklesia in Ephesus.

20:21

Paul is one day each in Cos, Rhodes, Patara, and Phoenicia, all ports-of-call.

21:1,2

Cyprus is forever Barnabas' and not Paul's.

21:3,4

Paul arrives in Tyre. He stays 7 days with the church in Tyre, but only because the ship took 7 days to unload its cargo. He departs Tyre as soon as the boat unloads.

21:7

Paul arrives at the church in Ptolemais. He is with them one day, then departs.

21:8

Paul visits Phillip in Caesara "for some days." (possibly 3 days; see v. 15)

Total of eleven years of mobile ministry.

In eleven years, Paul departed 39 ekklesias. This does not include the churches in Cilicia, Syria, and Asia Minor. He traveled 8 years and was at home in Antioch, Syria for 3 years.  That averages 5 arrivals and departures per year! After this stage of Paul's life, he is confined in a prison and in a house chained to a Roman guard.

Observe Paul's vague words to the ekklesia in Corinth (I Cor. 16:6): "Perhaps I will stay with you awhile, or even spend the winter, so that you can help me on my journey, wherever I go."
